2-The Fife Diet, an initiative that aims to boost the local food industry in Fife by getting people to only eat fresh food from the area is helping to cut local’s carbon footprints. Why not try and only eat fresh food from your area for a week?

3- Say No To Plastic. This organistion is aiming to get people to stop using plastic bags in favour of more environmentally friendly alternatives. Instead of using supermarket provided bags, cart your food home in a rucksack.

4- Carbon Fast- Tearfund is running a carbon fast during Lent, where every day you can do something to reduce your carbon emission. Once you’ve completed your fast, run your new figures through the Carbon Gym Calculator and see how far you’ve come.

5- Protest against supermarket developments in your local area. Supermarkets can impact negatively on local businesses and the environment, so take a leaf out of Tescopoly’s book and start campaigning.

6- Sign up to Freecycle, get rid of unwanted goods and get something useful free in return. From bicycles to breadbins, exchange with people in your town and help to keep potentially useable items out of landfills.

7- Visit Leicester, the first environment city in the UK and pick up tips for your town.

8- Switch to Ecotricity, the world’s first renewable energy company, then see if you can get other houses in your street to change too.

9- Start composting your rubbish. Not only will you be cutting down on landfill rubbish, but you can use the results to make your garden bloom. You can get a compost bin from your local council.

10- Save electricity by using the sun to charge your iPod, mobile phone, PSP or just about anything with a  solar powered charger.
